Notice Regarding the Status of Voting Equipment

NOTICE REGARDING THE STATUS OF VOTING EQUIPMENT IN CLAY COUNTY

Dated:  January 23, 2019

The Clay County Clerk’s office first implemented optical scan voting equipment in 2006.  Clay County chose, and currently still uses, the M100 Optical Scan and AutoMark ADA Touchscreen voting equipment.  Twenty-two of the twenty-eight M100 Optical Scan units are 13 years old, with the remaining six units being 12 years old.  The sixteen AutoMark ADA Touchscreen voting units are all 13 years old.

The equipment undergoes scheduled, systematic maintenance for optimum performance and is deemed to all be in good operating status.  Voting equipment is thoroughly tested prior to all elections and maintenance scheduled as necessary.   At this time, the County Clerk’s office is not perceiving an urgent need to replace current equipment with new equipment.  Cost associated with obtaining new equipment would be approximately $185,000.00.

Brenda Britton, Clay County Clerk
